Macy's Glamorama Provides Fashion Fiesta

The scene: The Orpheum Theater in downtown Los Angeles was transformed into an all-star fashion spectacle for the annual Macy’s Passport Glamorama charity event, held Sept. 23. Macy’s welcomed nearly 2,000 people who came to show their support for the well-known fund-raiser, which was attended by Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sharon Stone and Carson Kressley, among others.

Nine designers showed their latest fall collections during the runway show and concert, which raised more than $25,000 for AIDS Project Los Angeles and Project Angel Food .

Tommy Hilfiger ’s Tommy Girl kicked off the fashion show with an array of Ivy League– and prep school–influenced styles. Models sported pleated skirts, football jerseys, '80s-inspired snowflake sweaters, plaid shorts, blazers, bright galoshes and laced boots for fall.

Macy’s Impulse followed with a Coco Chanel–inspired collection of women’s coats, blazers and dresses. Seamed stockings, small black hats and touches of fur on gloves channeled 1940s glamour into the collection of red, black and gray contemporary styles. Standouts included a leopard-print ruched dress; an off-the-shoulder red silky dress; and a short, black, sequined disco dress.

Armani Jeans stepped up the masculine vibe with male models sporting lots of leather and urban cool variations on the iconic looks of the motorcyclist, fighter pilot and rebel punk. Solid and striped denim and leather jackets were paired with Armani jeans in a range of light and dark neutrals to showcase rugged street style. A single black, velvet suit channeled evening elegance.

Child star Bailey Munoz of “America’s Got Talent” and a cast of mini- breakdancers also joined in the fun before segueing into a performance by Far East Movement and a tribute to Elizabeth Taylor led by Sharon Stone. Stone described Taylor as “a great mother, a great grandmother and a great humanitarian” before Taylor’s grandsons Quinn Tivey and Tarquin Wilding stepped forward to say a few words about their grandmother. A long-time philanthropist, Taylor raised more than $29 million for HIV and AIDS causes during her 25 years as Macy’s Passport Founding Chair.

Macy’s Bar III collection celebrated bohemian hippie styling with fringed purses, vests and shirts; feathered accessories; and Southwestern prints and color palette. Clothes were complemented by burgundy-and-gray striped knee-highs and laced, wedge dress shoes.

Kenneth Cole followed with a motley assortment of updated English and Scottish outdoor looks for men, highlighted by slide projections of Banksy graffiti. Jackets and sweaters in muted tones of brown and gray were offset by bright bowties, plaid and striped scarves, and heavy footwear. Newsboy caps, military jackets, scarves, rugged combat boots and wellies in a range of subdued fall colors were abundant.

Rachel Rachel Roy offered an eclectic mix of nomadic, Far East–influenced bohemian looks inspired by her travels to India and Tibet. Sequined harem pants, babydoll dresses, silky pantsuits, faux fur and florals mixed with fluorescent orange, eye-popping yellows and bright purple sent the audience on a whirlwind, color-infused global tour.

Calvin Klein channeled urban sophistication with a mix of mid-century and contemporary looks for men and women. A ’50s-style black cape and an ivory, belted trench coat with a large fold-over collar contrasted with a contemporary leopard-print blotted skirt, a burgundy python print pantsuit and a ’80s-inspired, tight, tan ribbed dress. Evening looks included a metallic copper pantsuit and a champagne rose-colored floor-length strapless dress. Male models sported clean lines and traditional looks, including a crème-colored turtleneck, a gray dress suit and a black leather jacket.

Tracy Reese highlighted fall colors and uptown glamour with her elegant blouses, long skirts and formal dresses in shades of amber, copper and metallic mustard, complemented by tall boots and bursts of silver, aqua and orchid.

The fashion show closed with an intense, athletic showing of brightly colored Papi underwear worn by male models carrying footballs and soccer balls. Primary colors and color-blocking in combos of royal blue, ruby red, emerald green and vivid yellow were key for the line of sexy men’s briefs.

Cee Lo Green ended the event in head-to-toe safari khakis and plenty of bling, getting the audience up out of their seats with rowdy renditions of his hits “Crazy” and “Forget You” before attendees moved on to an after-party at the California Market Center . —Deidre Crawford
