Plans to bring beloved, cancelled soap operas online have been stalled by a lack of funding.

Producers of All My Children and One Life to Live are struggling to find financial backers who believe that such a move can be successful. These are the first established TV series to be transported to the Internet. Some are skeptical because online advertising does not produce the revenue that television advertising does.

In addition, the $160,000-per-episode budget may be inexpensive for television, but is a huge amount for the Internet. Jeff Kwatinetz, head of Prospect Park (the production company trying to make the transition from TV to the Internet), is attempting to convince the shows’ cast and crew to take a pay cut. He claims that the shows will still be profitable online if only 10 percent of their TV audience watches them.
The decision to cancel All My Children and One Life to Live and move them online was announced in July.
