Tigers thankful for teammates and CIF playoff game this holiday

San Luis Obispo High football is one of six Central Coast football teams with a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving holiday.

Wednesday, the Tigers gathered at the Madonna Inn for a special team dinner. The Tigers are just two days away from hosting a second round playoff game against Chaminade, the third seed in the Western Division.

San Luis Obispo won big on the road last week 54-28 for its first postseason win in five years. The Tigers outscored Camarillo 28-0 in the third quarter to take control of the game.

Players say it's fitting to spend a pre-Thankgsiving meal with teammates, who are their second family. "We've been working together for many months now and so being in the second round and having a great dinner, I couldn't be more thankful for it," said senior running back Jacob Flores.

"It's very special because this means we've had a winning year, which we haven't had in a while and it's fun because all the hard work we did is finally paying off and we're getting rewarded for it," said senior wide receiver Trevor McGuire.

The Tigers said the dinner was a nice break from a week and an entire season of going all out in practice. "Our work ethic I think the way we work in and out everyday and practicing hard everyday really pays off," said junior quarterback Garrett Giovannelli.

A win on Friday would put the Tigers in their first semifinal since 2004. Chaminade lost to Arroyo Grande last year in the CIF semifinals.

The winner of the SLO/Chaminade game will play the winner of the Arroyo Grande/St.Francis game in next week's semifinals.
