The family sits in an arena learning about dinosaurs. All the children in the audience become very scared because the dinosaurs they see are not friendly like Barney.
After the show, Marge hopes the kids will learn to take care of the planet but Bart and Homer feel that is not what the show was about. After the show they go to the gift shop and the kids argue over toys. The kids ask for toys but Homer says no. Bart is angry that he will not get a toy so he throws it Homer. The toy misses Homer and hits a women dressed as a dinosaur. Lisa recognizes the women as the writer of her favorite book series. The woman runs away when Lisa recognizes her and Lisa chases her to get information about the stories.
When Lisa finally stops her the woman confesses that she is just an actor that the book company uses for the book cover. Her favorite writer does not really exist. Lisa is crushed and leaves crying.
Lisa tells Marge that she wants to get rid of her books because they are based on a lie. Marge tells her to just enjoy the books. Lisa goes to vent to Homer and he likes the sound of making money by tricking kids. Homer goes to Bart with the idea and he is game given that he may make some money. Homer and Bart go to Skinner because he knows the kids better then anyone. The idea of making money to get out of his mother’s house is good to him so he accepts. They also go to aunt Selma because she has read every book ever written. She reluctantly agrees. They go to the bar to ask Lenny but Lenny says he is too busy. When Moe hears the idea he wants the chance to be around people so he request to join and they both agree. They also find a computer guy in Springfield’s area scientist.
Bart and Homer are in Bart’s room talking about he idea and Lisa overhears it and is mad. She decides to write a real book that is actually written by an author. Her attempts to write a 2000 word story are slow as she gets distracted easily.
Bart and Homer gather with their group in the library to discuss ideas. All their ideas seem over done and the crew gets discouraged. Bart inspires them to keep thinking and comes up with an idea to have their main character be a young troll.
Neil Gaiman is in the library and over hears them and likes their idea. He asks to join them and they agree to take him on.
Lisa, meanwhile, tries to get ideas by going to a coffee shop but once again finds it hard to get interested.
The group are seen making progress while Lisa is seen wasting time.
The group finishes their story and is happy with their idea.
Lisa is seen being discouraged because she still has no ideas and has not written anything.
Bart and Homer go to Lisa’s room and tease her because they have a finished manuscript.
Bart's group is scene taking their book to a publisher who likes it. The publisher demands that they have a fake author with an inspirational tale because he says it sells books. The group goes to the book fair and splits up to find an author.
Lisa comes to the book fair to scope out the competition. She is sad that all the books there are good and even a dog has written one. Homer sees her crying and offers to make her an author. She gladly accepts. The publisher meets her and hears her story. He decides to buy the book.
The group and Lisa all go to the bar to celebrate and Lisa is sad that she has sold out. Bart tells her to get over it. Skinner brings in an advance copy and the group find that the characters have all been changed to vampires rather then trolls because vampires sell better. The group is sad. Neil Gaiman tells them that their feelings are pride of ownership. Even though they were all in it for the money they grew to love the book they created. They decide to take their book back even though they will loose the money.
During the night the group goes to the publishers office and plans to switch the new copy, which is going to print at midnight, with their original copy so that the wrong book will print.
The group is seen breaking into the building. As they go to take the book, the publisher comes forward and tells them that someone in their group told him they were coming. Lisa appears from the shadows and confesses that it was her who told the publisher. She wants her dreams to come true.
The next day they go to the bookstore and find that their original version is the one on stands. They are happy. Lisa confesses that she pretended to betray them so that she could switch the flash drives and got their book published.
Lisa is proud and excited until she sees the back cover. There is a picture of Neil Gaiman instead of her. They discover that Giaman has betrayed them all and stolen the credit.
