SUMMERSIDE – The theft of two life-sized Elvis replicas from the steps of a Summerside home has prompted a well-known Elvis impersonator to reach out to the victimized family.
Thane Dunn heard Thursday about the theft of the Elvis replicas from the Doucette home on Palmer Street.
Immediately, he knew he had to do something to cheer up the family, especially, David, a huge Elvis fan. A care packaged filled with Elvis memorabilia should arrive at the Doucette home later today, thanks to Dunn.
“Those people are gold,” said the award-winning Elvis impersonator. “They knew who I was and were flabbergasted.”
Dunn has sent a replica jumpsuit, Elvis signature bracelet, rings, bone china Elvis mugs, autographed pictures, Elvis movies and CDs and Elvis glasses to the Doucette family.
Pat Doucette made the replicas for David, who is intellectually challenged. Almost two weeks ago the first Elvis, made of plywood, was stolen. A second papier-mâché Elvis was taken sometime overnight Sunday or early Monday morning.
“I’ve done things like this before. I just thought about it and said, hey, I want to do something,” said Dunn, who also set aside tickets for the family to his Oct. 28 performance at Summerside’s Harbourfront Theatre. “Elvis gave back to so many different places and different people in the community. I can’t give those people a million dollars. It’s something I tried to do throughout my entire career, to give back to the people that have supported me.”
He also has something planned for the family during his Summerside show.
In the lobby of the theatre now stands a standup cardboard cut out of the Elvis impersonator.
