High tea at Martha Green's Eating Room had an Elvis flair with Li'l Elvis, aka Joe Banuelos, entertaining at Angels' Closet Charities' benefit.
Nearly 200 people attended the tea, with seatings Sept. 8, 9 and 10, and Angels' Closet reached its goal of $5,000.
Guests dined on mini sandwiches, cupcakes, quiches and flavored teas served by Girl Scout volunteers modeling evening wear.
"Martha Green's Eating Room was the perfect place for our first tea," said Pat Williams, founder of Angels' Closet Charities. "Martha and her staff were wonderful to work with."
Angels' Closet works with high school administrators, counselors, teachers and campus staff to identify students in need and provide clothing and other items. Shopping is done one on one by appointment only at Redlands East Valley High School.
Three years ago Williams started inviting disadvantaged high school students into her living room to try on evening gowns.
"These young adults gave me the motivation I needed to start Angels' Closet Charities," Williams said.
Since those living room visits, Angels' Closet Charities has grown to three classrooms on the Redlands East Valley High School campus.
"We have everything set up like a boutique. One room is dedicated to high school students' casual wear, another dedicated to formal wear and business attire and the third is set up as a receiving room," Williams said.
distributes new and gently used casual, formal and business attire for girls and boys and other items including graduation caps and gowns for seniors.
Williams said she believes that by providing this much-needed assistance, Angels' Closet promotes a more positive high school experience.
Angels' Closet serves students in the Redlands Unified School District and surrounding San Bernardino County school districts.
