Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil has been ruled out of Sunday's game at Tennessee. Instead of traveling with the team to Nashville on Friday, Dumervil remained behind in Denver to receive treatment on his injured shoulder.
Dumervil was on the field for the start of Friday's practice but did not participate in drills, coach John Fox said. Dumervil also missed last week's game against Cincinnati and was limited to only passing downs in the opener because of the shoulder injury, initially suffered in practice.
"I wouldn't call it a setback. This is a physical game, and it is hard enough with two arms," Fox said. "It's hard to play with one arm."
Jason Hunter is expected to start at right defensive end for the second week in a row. Also ruled out of Sunday's game are receivers Eddie Royal (groin) and Demaryius Thomas (finger); defensive tackle Marcus Thomas (groin); and tight end Julius Thomas (ankle). Cornerback Champ Bailey (hamstring), linebacker D.J. Williams (elbow) and running back Knowshon Moreno (hamstring) are listed as questionable, while receiver Brandon Lloyd (groin) is probable. Those four players will travel to Tennessee and be treated as game-day decisions.
Bailey did not practice during the week, but his hamstring made significant progress since last week.
Williams participated in practice all week after suffering a dislocated elbow, but it's unlikely he will play.
Quick study. There has been little time for Quan Cosby to acclimate to his new team and new offense since signing with the Broncos on Tuesday.
Cosby will be active as the team's fourth wide receiver against the Titans and could have a prominent role on special teams, returning punts and kickoffs. He returned 70 punts and 16 kickoffs in two seasons in Cincinnati.
"Those are things I've done in the league before, so I just want to go out and play my role in that," Cosby said.
Eric Decker and Royal have returned punts for the Broncos the first two weeks, but Royal is out with a groin injury, and Decker, who had a 90-yard return for a touchdown in the season opener, will have a large role in the offense.
Footnotes. The Broncos boarded their charter flight to Tennessee on Friday afternoon and were to arrive by early evening, giving players a day and a half to prepare for their first early kickoff of the season. . . . Rookie linebacker Mike Mohamed, a sixth- round draft pick, was signed to the practice squad Friday, a day after he was released from the 53-man roster to clear a spot for tight end Dante Rosario. TE John Nalbone, signed to the practice squad Tuesday, was waived to make room for Mohamed on the eight-man practice squad.
