NIAGARA FALLS — Jordan Street was ready to follow fellow Niagara Falls basketball standout Marcus Feagin to Monroe CC this fall, but a change of heart has him on a different path.
Street has committed to Mont Clare Academy, a prep school in Phoenixville, Penn. The former Wolverines post player averaged 11 points and 10 rebounds per game for the Niagara Frontier League champions who fell to Jamestown in the Section VI Class AA championship.
Street said he’s looking forward to seeing time with Mont Clare after the school offered him a significant scholarship to play there.
“It’s an elite program, we go everywhere in the United States and to different tournaments,” Street said. “I think it’s a good move for me. I can get better, get stronger and get ready for Division-I hopefully.”
Street appeared ready to attend Monroe when the hoops season ended this spring, but Street said a prep school gives him a chance to play Division I hoops after this season.
“I had second thoughts,” Street said. “I’m really happy Marcus went to Monroe, he’ll be really successful there. It’s a really good program, I liked the coaches and everything they brought to the table, I just had second thoughts and thought I could do better in prep school.”
Street also considered a prep school in Florida but decided staying closer to his family was the right fit. Niagara Falls coach Sal Constantino is happy his former player found a place to call home this fall.
“He’s going to a very high level of basketball. I’ve just seen him grow so much in the last year or so in the classroom and on the court,” Constantino said. “At the end of the day the most important thing is after a year of prep school, he’ll be in a college. Whether it’s Division I or Division III, that depends on how hard he works.”
Street will suit up for second-year Mont Clare coach Erneset Pearsall, who has previously worked at St. Joseph’s University, his alma mater, as well as Columbia.
“I leave Sept. 10. I’m really looking forward to it,” Street said. “I’m ready to get out of here and get the show rolling.”
Constantino said he’s proud his former players are finding ways to continue their education.
“It’s really good to see all of our seniors on their way to higher education,” he said. “With Marcus going to Monroe and Jordan going to Mont Clare, they’re going to continue their basketball careers but our other two guys (Dave Pascucci and Demetrics Evans) are going to NCCC to go to school. The program is doing what it’s supposed to do, have people further their education.”
