A new advertising manager has been named at the Niagara Falls Review.
Mark Dawson, 60, will be joining The Review from The Standard in St. Catharines where he had worked in multi-media sales.
"I am looking forward to being part of The Review," he said. "I'm also looking forward to becoming a part of the life of the community, especially the business community."
The Virgil resident has been in the industry for 37 years, spending time at various newspapers across the region including Niagara Advance, Grimsby Independent, Thorold News and Fort Erie Times.
Dawson began his newspaper career at the West Lincoln Review in 1974.
"I have always had an interest in newspapers so when the opportunity came for me to be involved in a community newspaper, I pursued it," he recalled.
He began in the sales department and was named sales manager by the end of his first year.
He worked as the human resources manager for Rannie Printing and Publishing in
1991 and was named assistant general manager for the Rannie newspaper division in 1995.
He co-published Community Life in West Niagara from 1996 to 1999 and was account executive at CHSC Radio from 1999 to 2000.
He was senior account manager at Astral Media before returning to print media at The Standard in 2010.
"I had been out of the newspaper business for a while and when someone heard I was coming back they told me the ink never leaves your blood. It's so true."
Born in Hamilton and raised in Niagara, Dawson is married with four children.
"Mark brings an incredible amount of experience and drive to our sales and management team," said Review publisher Mark Cressman.
"We are all thrilled to have Mark become part of the Niagara Falls business community."
Dawson replaces Daria Zmiyiwsky who has been named the director of community relations with Sun Media Niagara.
