
Recruiter was accused in sexual assault of a child
CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY/ KXAN) - NCIS is investigating the suicide of a former Navy recruiter who was also facing charges in connection with the sexual assault of a child, Fox affiliate KXAN reports.
According to Kelly O'Sullivan with Chesapeake Police, 38-year-old James McKernan died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound sometime between September 22 and 23. His body was found just after midnight on September 23.
KXAN said McKernan was a high school Navy recruiter in the Austin, Texas area and recently was accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl that he met through the game , "Words with Friends."

The victim reportedly listed her age on her game profile as 18-years-old.
According to an arrest warrant, the two met several times before the girl revealed her age. The two then met for a third time at a Texas yacht club where McKernan allegedly sexually assaulted the teen.
McKernan lived in the 400 block of Beauregard Drive in Chesapeake and KXAN added they were told McKernan was planning on returning to Austin to turn himself in.
