SAN JOSE -- A $772 million contract to construct the BART extension to San Jose is about to be approved. The Board of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority will be voting to award the contract to the joint venture of Skanska-Shimmick-Herzog when it meets on December 8th.

NIAGARA FALLS — Less than a fortnight away from the season’s first tip, Niagara Falls is scrambling to fill a sudden hole in its schedule.
The Wolverines boys basketball team learned Saturday that the Primetime Shootout has been canceled by tournament organizers. The Shootout, scheduled for Feb. 11-12 at Kean University in New Jersey, had the Wolverines playing games against St. Benedict’s (N.J.) and Colts Neck (N.J.), now leaving Niagara Falls with two open non-league dates.
Nov. 23--NIAGARA FALLS -- Niagara Falls Water Board members may be in for an earful tonight.
The board has scheduled a public hearing for 5 p.m. where members will hear comments from city residents and business owners about their proposed 2012 operating budget.
The gathering is expected to draw attention from at least one environmental advocacy group that is looking to prevent the Falls from becoming a treatment site for hydraulic fracturing fluids.

Jeff Goldsmith doesn’t say much — on or off the field — but give him a bit of room to run and he can make the football crowd at Sal Maglie Stadium get loud in a hurry.
“I call him a quiet superstar,” Niagara Falls coach Don Bass said. “You see players that have some extraordinary talent and they let you know it, but Jeff, he just led by example.”

The self-styled "jet man" has performed another death-defying stunt -- flying alongside two Albatross aircraft above the Swiss Alps.

The computer game character is part of a package of online and printed materials called Kids Act On Energy available from Ameren Illinois. The package, which meets Illinois Learning Standards, is free and includes natural gas safety lessons. The utility said more than 125,000 students in its service area already are learning from it.

The rookie pass-rusher was confused Friday about which hit got him in trouble. He said his letter from the league noted he was getting docked for hitting quarterback Mark Sanchez in the chest, although he suspected the fine was actually for a late hit in which he struck Sanchez in the back.

In a lifestyle as fast-paced as ours, time is quite the commodity. We are always on the move: running, leaping, flying to achieve the American Dream. I have personally wondered how much I can truly achieve in a day. Is it plausible to plan to work out at the gym, write a midterm paper, start shopping for the holiday season and do laundry all in one day? What if I wanted to add to the list — read a Jodi Picoult novel and play the piano? Sometimes the answer would be yes, and other times, I’d find myself less successful. Marie Curie discovered radium, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton helped lead the temperance movement. And I couldn’t finish laundry? What was I busy with instead? Where all of my time went, I wasn’t really too sure.
