Exceptionally is out of action - Local News - Sport - Horse Racing - Stawell Times News

STAWELL - Terry O'Sullivan-trained galloper Exceptionally is out for the rest of this year's spring racing carnival.

The five-year old mare raced on October 2 in the 2500 metre Bart Cummings and pulled up sore.

Trainer O'Sullivan said she will be out of business for the rest of the year.

"The hard track did the damage at Caulfield," he said.

It is a blow for the O'Sullivan stable, with Exceptionally being 58th on the order of entry for the Melbourne Cup before the Bart Cummings.

The Bart Cummings was set to have a major impact on whether she had earnt the right to vie for one of racing's highest accolades.

The mare finished ninth with Danny Nikolic on board.

Meanwhile, O'Sullivan had success in Horsham on Sunday with Vihanna Victory taking out the 1200 metre Finns Fine Food Maiden Plate.

"She had a good run up the inside and ran well. We were pretty happy," he said.

Vihanna Victory's win comes after running second at Ararat back in May before an 18 week spell.

The four-year old mare returned to the track in Murtoa on October 2, running an unlucky third in the 1100 metre Dahlsens Maiden Plate.

Her next race will be in Stawell on October 28.

O'Sullivan also had success over the border at the weekend, with Magic Me. The former New Zealand galloper won the 1200 metre Sportingbet Handicap in Morphetville, South Australia.

O'Sullivan's other four-year old mare, Littleriver Ruby, ran second in Horsham in the 1400 metre Maiden Plate.

He praised the mare who had Clare Lindop on board, saying she produced a good effort after running eighth in Murtoa earlier this month.
