Michael Jackson's Kids Are Rich, But Should... | Gather

Michael Jackson will forever be a music icon. Just like Elvis Presley, Jackson continues to make money even after his death. Sadly, Michael himself can't benefit from that money. However, his family and children can. The question is this: Should they?

Michael's mother controls the cash earned by her late son as his children's guardian. Some people have a problem with that arrangement. It's because they believe Jackson's family exploited him when he was alive and are continuing to do so even after his death. They wonder how much of the cash Michael's kids will actually see and when?

On the other hand, some people don't believe Jackson's kids need all that money to begin with. They view it as an excuse for them to do nothing with their lives, if they're so inclined.

According to Forbes, Jackson holds the top spot when it comes to making money post death. Elvis Presley comes in at number two. However, unlike Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley's estate doesn't entirely go to his daughter, Lisa Marie. She merely keeps a 15 percent stake in that. The rest of the money goes to a corporation who, in turn, distributes it as advised.

In fact, a lot of celebrities have chosen not to leave all their hard-earned cash to their family members. Albert Einstein, for instance, willed his rights to a Hebrew university. These stars don't believe their wealth should become a mechanism for their families to become lazy. They particularly want their children to learn how to stand alone, without mommy's or daddy's long-term help.

Of course some of their fans might have a problem with them willing their wealth to a greedy corporation instead. That probably depends on how much say someone like Michael Jackson might have in how the money's spent.

It's an interesting conundrum. Greedy kids versus greedy corporations. Which way would you go if you had the big bucks?
