This week on iPOP.
Johnny Depp was all over iPOP this week, touting his anticipated turn in “The Rum Diary,” Bruce Robinson’s adaptation of the early Hunter S. Thompson novel that hits theaters this Friday.
First we caught up with him in Texas at the Austin Film Festival where he was on hand to screen the film and receive the festival’s inaugural Extraordinary Contribution to Film Acting Award. A few days later, he landed in Manhattan to attend the NYC premiere and jam alongside close friend Keith Richards at the raucous afterparty hosted by none other than Playboy.
Other stars popped up on iPOP this week as well, including young Oscar-nominee Abigail Breslin at the “Janie Jones” NYC premiere, James Franco in Austin to debut his film “Sal” and Madonna in London screening “W.E.” at the city’s film festival.
Check out these pictures and more below:

Kino Lorber and Redemption Films celebrated their new partnership at the Gershwin Hotel in New York last night with a screening of Jean Rollin’s 1970 “The Shiver of the Vampires,” one of several vintage horror titles from Redemption’s library. The deal between the companies positions Kino Lorber as the exclusive distributor for Redemption Films in U.S. and Canada. Kino Lorber plans on releasing 35 films from the library on DVD, Blu-ray, and all digital and VOD platforms in 2012. The plan includes “Shiver” as well as the rest of Rollin’s darkly surreal vampire films in new restorations.
Nigel Wingrove, curator and founder of Redemption Films, told the audience before the screening, “We’ve had good distributors and bad distributors over the years, but with Kino, we really feel like we’ve
found a home.” Speaking of Rollin, who died in December, Wingrove added: “He was a very driven man, but this is the first time we’ve had the money and resources to bring out these films and make them look even better than when Rollin made them.”
Kino Lorber president and CEO Richard Lorber described “Shiver,” which the company plans to release in January, as “the true “True Blood”—Roger Corman meets Jean Cocteau.” He also hinted at another
upcoming deal with Jezebel Films, as well as plans to distribute the films of Mario Bava. Bret Wood, Kino Lorber VP and curator of the Rollin films, explained the marketing plan for the new releases. “The longtime strategy is that if you treat every film like a treasure, people will respond to them,” he said. “That’s what we want to do with Rollin’s work.”
