Bear Down…and Blog!
Current and former University of Arizona athletes are always making news and not always in traditional mediums. We scoured the Internet and found Wildcats online by visiting these lynx
Jake Locker missed the Arizona game in 2008 when Washington traveled to Tucson, meaning Arizona Wildcat defensive lineman Earl Mitchell didn’t get a chance to harass the Huskies’ quarterback and future first-round draft pick.
And while the quarterback escaped Mitchell’s grasped on Sunday during the Texans’ 41-7 win over Locker and Tennessee, another former Wildcat was able to take down the Titans’ signal caller.
Texans rookie Brooks Reed earned the first sack of his career on Sunday, turfing his fellow rookie. At the very least, Mitchell left Locker with a sore neck on Monday.

The Arizona kicking game has struggled mightily the past two seasons. See last year’s Territorial Cup game against Arizona State.
Forgive the Wildcats for doing a celebratory dance this week. It seems the kicking woes have been solved.
The PAC-12 named John Bonano as its Bank of the West PAC-12 Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in Arizona’s 48-7 drubbing of UCLA. Making his placekicking debut, Bonano wracked up 12 points on two field goals and six PAT’s.
Unfortunately for Arizona, Bonano is a senior.

“Who will I be next? @FakeChrisPeterson? @FakeBelotti? @FakeLarryFedora? @TheGhostOfJoePaterno? @MarkHudspethsAlterEgo? Stay tuned.”
- The only person more affected than the real Mike Stoops by the coach’s firing two weeks ago was perhaps the fake Mike Stoops. Now the satirical Twitter count (@FakeMikeStoops) is lying in wait for a new handle. What about @FakeTimKish?

“If the Rangers win that will give 4 guys from the 1998 CanyonDel Oro HS baseball team with a world series ring. How bout that.”
- Cleveland Indian outfielder and ex-Wildcat Shelley Duncan talking about Texas second baseman and CDO alum Ian Kinsler. Kinsler would join former Dorado alums Brian Anderson (White Sox, 2005), Chris Duncan (Cardinals, 2006) and Shelley (Yankees, 2009) with World Series hardware on their fingers.
“Getting ready to watch the Series. I got Cardinals in 7. This is time someone pops out and becomes a household name. Freese? Craig? Motte?
- I’d hope you pick the Cards, Shelley Duncan, after all, your dad is the team’s pitching coach.

For most of her life, Amanda Beard has swam like a champion—an Olympic champion. These days, the Wildcat alum has added a new role to her repertoire: swimming like a mom. Check out her blog of the same name, which offers an insight into her life as a world-class swimmer and parent.

Who would win in a fight between a bee and a ferocious cat? Wildcat Nation hopes it’s the latter. But unlike most Arizona athletic contests, this one is entirely in the hands of the fans. Wilbur (5-3) faces his toughest test of the football season this week when he squares off against Buzz, the undefeated Georgia Tech mascot (8-0) in the Capital One Mascot Challenge.

Got high hopes for the 2011-12 Wildcats’ basketball season? Need some goose bumps? Check out the UA Hoops intro from Saturday’s Red-Blue Game, won by a Jesse Perry-led (20 points) Red Team 67-54.
