Celebrities, colleagues take to the Internet to mourn Jobs

Fans, executives and colleagues across the country remorse over news of the passing of Steve Jobs, co-founder and former CEO of Apple Inc., on Wednesday.

As news spreads, friends and followers of Jobs find ways to remember the former innovator.

It was only a matter of minutes before word of Jobs’ death became the most tweeted topic on the social media siteTwitter. Along with their tweets, Twitter users included words like “iSad” and “iHeaven” in remembrance of the former tech titan.

Celebrities also took to Twitter to publish condolences, according to theSeattle Post-Intelligencer.

Here are some of those posts:

“Rest in Peace, Steve Jobs. Kinda can’t believe he’s gone. Carrying a little part of him in my pocket every day,” said Katie Couric.

"Steve lived the California Dream every day of his life and he changed the world and inspired all of us. #ThankYouSteve," said Arnold Schwarzenegger.

JobsÂ’ own competitor, Bill Gates, sent his regards in an email statement published onAllThingsD.

“I’m truly saddened to learn of Steve Jobs’ death,” said Gates in the email statement. “Steve and I first met nearly 30 years ago, and have been colleagues, competitors and friends over the course of more than half our lives. The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come.”

Tim Cook, current CEO of Apple, sent a memo to the Apple staff concerning the death of their former leader.

“Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple,” Cook said in the Memo as found onVenture Beat. “We are planning a celebration of Steve’s extraordinary life for Apple employees that will take place soon.”

TheApple.comhome page now dons a picture of the company’s former leader and reads “Steve Jobs, 1955-2011.”

Upon clicking the image, the website reads: “Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor.”

The site provides an email where users can share condolences.

Some were honoring Jobs for his work as CEO before his passing was announced.

Before news of Jobs’ death, a group of Apple fans declared Oct. 14, the same day as the launch of the iPhone 4S, as “Steve Jobs Day” in honor of the former CEO, according toPC Mag.

The website for Steve Jobs Day invites Apple fans to celebrate Jobs and his accomplishments “in real life, Facebook, Twitter and here,” according to theSteve Jobs Daywebsite.

“We admire his work,” reads the site. “We’ve embraced his vision. And we love what he’s brought to the world.”
