The Applebee’s restaurant inside Independence Center is holding a silent auction to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Independence.
The silent action runs through closing time Monday night. The store is selling memorabilia on the walls, including Chiefs and Royals items, a pair of Derrick Thomas’ shoes, and pictures and posters of the Beatles, Elvis Presley and “The Wizard of Oz.”
After Monday, the store closes for about 10 days for remodeling, retraining of staff and other work that the company calls a revitalization of the restaurant. It’s similar to updates to other Applebee’s locations across the metro area during the last couple of years. The restaurant is going for a more neighborly feel, with images on the walls of local sports teams and local police and firefighters.
The company says the changes also will add about eight jobs at the restaurant.
