The Houston Texans have released veteran defensive lineman Damione Lewis, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.

Lewis is a former St. Louis Rams first-round draft pick from the University of Miami. Lewis, 33, has also played for the Carolina Panthers and the New England Patriots.

Lewis had 17 tackles and a sack last season for the Texans in 10 games.

For his career, the 6-foot-2, 301-pounder has recorded 261 tackles, 23 1/2 sacks and four forced fumbles. For more coverage of the NFL go to profootball.scout.com.
