A chance to start the season with a memorable victory as the NFL remembers the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. The atmosphere at MetLife Stadium will be emotionally charged. "It’s a great honor to have been selected by the NFL to play this game," Jets owner Woody Johnson said. "It brings back a lot of memories. A lot of our guys were (young) when it happened. But for those of us who were there, it will be a poignant moment."

There will be a sibling battle in this game, with Jets head coach Rex Ryan on one side, and Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan on the other. Rex said he had spoken to his brother several times during the past week. "We rip each other," Rex said.

Plaxico Burress will make his regular-season debut in a Jets’ uniform, adding another storyline to a game that has many. This will also be Jason Garrett’s first season-opener as the Cowboys’ head coach, and quarterback Tony Romo is back from last season’s collarbone injury. "I think he’s chomping at the bit to get back," Garrett said of Romo. "He’s had a very good training camp."

Romo vs. Jets defense. The Jets love to blitz and confuse quarterbacks. However, the Cowboys have the playmakers in Miles Austin, Dez Bryant and Jason Witten to take advantage of one-on-one matchups when the Jets bring the blitz. Can the Jets get to Romo before Romo and his playmakers hurt the Jets?

The Cowboys’ banged up secondary. Cornerback Terence Newman (groin) is out, and the other starting corner, Mike Jenkins, could be slowed by a knee injury suffered Wednesday at practice. Unless Dallas puts pressure on Mark Sanchez, it could have a tough time dealing with Jets receivers Burress, Santonio Holmes and Derrick Mason.
