Waterloo- Family and Friends said their final goodbyes to a Waterloo teen on Saturday. Last week, 19-year-old Marcellus Andrews died from what investigators say was blunt force trauma to the head, after a fight last Friday.

On Saturday family and friends remembered Andrews short life at Union Missionary Baptist Church in Waterloo. Sharing kind words of who he was as a son, brother, friend and teammate. Andrews was a captain on the Union Baptist Crusaders Drill Team, an active member of the Union Missionary Baptist Church. Pat Bower, is the leader of the team, and says Andrews was remarkable. “A talented young man” Bower said.

Cornelius Williams went to school with Andrews and said he was an special person. “Every time I saw Marcellus, he always had a smile on his face. If you were down, he always was there,” Williams said.

At the funeral, the Crusaders performed to honor Andrews. The team wore headbands that read “marcellus” and green ribbons. “A lot of tears were shed as they were marching,” Bower said. The team then gave Andrews their final salute, Bower then putting his drill team shoes on top of where he rests. “There’s a lot of respect for him amongst our young people, and that was shown,” Bower said.

Andrews tragedy now has loved ones pushing for change. “Tragedy, and the other things that go on in our community need to stop,” Bower said.

“It troubles my heart to see a tragedy like this in Waterloo,” Williams said.

Sharon Goodson is the President of the Blackhawk chapter of the NAACP. Goodson spoke at the wedding telling young adults that the violence has to stop. She and others are hoping for some answers. “I just hope that the kids that were there com forward and tell what happened,” Goodson said. But even though questions still fill the air, Saturday was dedicated to celebrating Andrews life and the joy he put in everyone else’s.

The case is still under investigation. Waterloo Police have not announced any arrests in the case.
