Couple charged with defrauding elderly woman - Ottawa - CBC News

Ottawa police have charged an Ottawa couple for defrauding an elderly woman out of about $19,000.

Police say the accused obtained the money under false pretenses when Bruna Ballis, 52, befriended the 86-year-old woman while working at an Orleans nursing home.

The home has been identified as Madonna LTC Centre on St. Joseph Boulevard.

Ballis, 52, and her husband James Ballis, 50, are now charged with one count each of fraud over $5,000.

Investigators believe there may be other victims, as well, who have not come forward.
