Samsung Galaxy S II Receives Android Ice Cream Sandwich Treatment

Samsung has yet to release an official Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Galaxy S II but the proficient developers of MIUI ROM managed to run Android’s latest on the handset.

The unexpected part was that initial benchmarks revealed speeds twice faster compared to what the stock ROM of Galaxy S II has in its arsenal.

According to Quadrant’s score, the ICS-poweredwent over the 5,000 mark as opposed to 3,500 points prior to the update.

The SunSpider JavaScript benchmark gave the upgraded handset 1,774 while the older Gingerbread scored more than 3,300 (lower is better for this benchmark).

In fairness to the stock Gingerbread ROM, the new Ice Cream Sandwich-based Galaxy S II had its CPU overclocked from 1.2 GHz to 1.6 GHz.

Unfortunately, it is a heavily customized MIUI ROM and does not have standard ICS UI treatment.

Still, users have different needs so if you want to give it a spin, just follow this XDA Developers forum link with caution.
