Learn to Curl clinic set

CURLERS' CORNER.

Have you always wanted to try curling or are you looking to brush up your curling skills?

Chinguacousy Curling Club is pleased to once again offer their Sunday Review Clinics from 1 to 3 p.m. this Sunday (Dec. 4), Sunday, Jan. 8, and Sunday, Feb. 5.  You are welcome to attend one, two or all three clinics.  The clinics are open to both members and non-members of the curling club.  You must register ahead of time by contacting Juli Roslin (jroslin@rogers.com).

Congratulations to the Chinguacousy Junior Men’s team of Scott Brandon (skip), Michael McGaugh (Vice), Danny Dow (second), Bryan Mitchell, and Matt Wilkinson (Coach), who won the B side of their Zones on Nov. 19 at their home club which hosted the event.

They will be off to Regionals this weekend  in Midland  along with the Brampton Curling Club Junior Women’s team—  Heather Cridland (skip), Stephanie Gemmell (vice), Stephanie McMahon (second), Kate Tepylo (Lead) and Colin Sinclair (coach).

The Cridland team won the A side of the Junior Women’s Zones.  This past October both teams played in the Junior Cash Spiel, hosted by the Brampton Curling Club.

Both the Brampton and Chinguacousy curling clubs have Mixed bonspiels happening tomorrow.

Brampton is holding its annual Turkey Spiel, where everyone is a winner and goes home with a turkey.

The Moving On Mixed Bonspiel (sponsored by Stu Scheffer, a long time member and curling supporter at Chinguacousy) has a fun-filled day of competition plus breakfast, lunch, dinner and prizes for everyone!

Everyone wanted to get to the final dinner at the T&D Ladies Bonspiel which was held Nov. 15 to Nov. 17 at the Leaside Curling Club.

Juli Roslin, Elaine Burroughs, Xandra Busche and Margaret Lea won the Senior Main Event Consolation and Lynda Earl, Jannette Trussler, Rachelle Ford and Sheila Little won the Third Event in the Senior Division.

Both teams enjoyed a wonderful dinner as a result of their efforts.

The Mixed Curling Leagues at the Brampton and Chinguacousy clubs have finished their first round of games.

At Brampton, the team of Martin Heltner, Trish DeRooy, Rob DeRooy and Jody Wickware are on top in the A Division, which is where the team finished last season.

John Bala with Wendy Bennette Costante, Rob Costante, and Karen Barbour were first in B Division, with the C Division first round winners being Geoff Hart, Lisa Gilroy, and Ron and Cathy Fay.  D Division saw Bob and Carol Whittaker with David and Dolly Goyette place first and Tom and Donna Hall, Tim Cripps and Kristna Dennison rounded out the top teams in E Division.

At Chinguacousy, the Mixed winners of the first draw were:  (Sunday) Tom and Sue Dunlop with Les and Cathy Kovacs; (Thursday) Grant and Trudy Burnside with Andrew and Olga Hunt (after a coin toss to break a tie in points with George and Agnes McNally with Bill and Sylvia Jackson; (Friday 7 p.m.) Don and Karen Rethoret with George and Marg Watson; and (Friday  9 p.m.) Dan Dempsey and Xandra Busche with Dave and Deb Kusturin.

Good curling fun was in fine display at the Brampton Curling Club on Sunday, Nov. 13, as the Little Rock curlers (6-12 years) brought out their friends for a game of curling.

The annual event is a great way to introduce new curlers to the sport with their curling friends right there to help them.

The Little Rock league still has 15 weeks of curling left and at $75 with all equipment supplied, it is the best sports deal in Brampton.

Contact the Brampton Curling Club at 905-451-4015 if you are interested in signing up your child for the rest of the season. Little Rocks run Sunday’s from 11:15 a.m to 12:15 p.m. at Brampton.

Chinguacousy Curling Club also has a Little Rock program running Sunday’s from 1:30 to 3 p.m. and Wednesday’s from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m.  Contact the Chinguacousy club at (info@chingcurling.com)
