New Review business column answers the questions of a developing city

By Dan Dakin Niagara Falls Review Updated 17 hours ago

Inquiring minds want to know: What is that oddly shaped building going up near the intersection of McLeod and Dorchester roads?

Ever since I was a kid, I've been curious about construction and the way buildings come together. Whether it's a small house or a 60-storey hotel tower, I find the whole process of development to be fascinating. I grew up in Niagara Falls and watched the transformation of the Fallsview area. (Who remembers the Waltzing Waters?)

Perhaps my interest in becoming a reporter was rooted in my curiosity for the city changing around me. When I would see a new building being constructed, I wanted to know what it was, who was behind it and how long before I could get inside to check it out.

Those are the kinds of questions people in the community are asking and I'm as curious as you are to get the answers. As soon as I found out I was coming back to The Niagara Falls Review, one of the projects I was looking forward to taking on was a business column.

When you see a building going up or being torn down, I want to be able to answer the question of "what's going on there?"

The Business Beat column will run each Wednesday in The Review and will focus on businesses in Niagara Falls and Fort Erie. Is your business expanding? Moving? Rebuilding? Did you receive a major award? New funding? Drop me a line.

Please send in your business briefs to ddakin@nfreview.com or call me at 905-358-5711, ext. 1153. And you can always send me a Twitter message @dandakinreview.

Oh, and to answer the initial question. It's an A&W Restaurant. Should be open by Christmas.
